I don’t know about you, but sometimes I have a hard time watching football and superheros. Between all the spandex and fit bodies, there is just too much exposure on the screen. Spandex just isn’t the right material for men to wear.
But are superheros and football players the only culprits for men in immodest clothing? I don’t think so.
I’m not trying to hate, honestly, I’m not. It’s just that I see it all the time: a hijabi/jilbabi girl with her brother/spouse; while she’s making an effort to cover her body… he isn’t.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I see men walking around in spandex and muscle shirts. But I do see men walking around with their fitted shirts tucked into their pants that are a little too tight in all the wrong places. I won’t go into details, but I’m sure you can catch my drift.
I don’t think I’m alone in this realization. I’ve actually heard jilbabi girls complain that their husbands walk around in shorter sweaters that are alittle snug, and walk out the door without missing a step. Last I remember, men had to cover from their navel to their knees, and not just the skin. They need to cover the shape.
How come men don’t make it more of a priority to cover their bodies? I know it may not be as important, because women don’t have as much of a problem controlling themselves (I think). And you typically don’t hear about girls having as much of a problem lowering their gazes (typically). But for me, it comes down to an issue of fairness. If men don’t want other men knowing the shape of their wives bodies, well I think it’s fair to assume women don’t want other women knowing the shape of their husbands bodies.
And that means, other girls shouldn’t be able to tell how often you go to the gym, or how often you don’t go to the gym. They shouldn’t know if you’re well fed, or if you have been working on a six pack recently. They shouldn’t know where your waist is, or where your legs start.
I’m not calling for a mass movement of men to run out and buy thobes to wear 24 hours a day. But what I am thinking is that men should take more of an initiative to wear looser clothes, a little bit of a longer shirt, and not show off the shape of their bodies, good or bad.
Yes? No? Maybe so?

I totally agree. I prefer my men (how many do I actually have?) to wear kurta shirts over their pants. Even regular dress shirts worn untucked don’t really cut it, in my opinion.
And as a principle, I don’t like that haya and modesty are connoted mostly with women. The Prophet (S) was described as modest and shy, so the Muslim man should feel the need to be modest and shy, as well.
I think we told them, right Ayesha?!

Question: Is there a special mode of dress that Muslim men must observe? Is it recommended that they wear long robes or shirts like the men of Saudi Arabia or Pakistan wear?
Answered by Sheikh `Abd al-Wahhâb al-Turayrî, former professor at al-Imâm University in Riyadh
A Muslim man is permitted to wear whatever is the customary dress in his country as long as he avoids any expressly unlawful behavior with respect to dress.
Unlawful modes of dress include exposing any part of his `awrah – which is the area between the navel and the knee – wearing pure silk or gold, and wearing long garments that hang below his ankles. It also includes wearing clothing made of impure substances like pigskin.
