Growing up I always thought that Winter was my favorite season of the year.  It somehow managed to feel cozy and warm despite all the cold weather outside.  Something about coats, boots, mittens, snow and blankets just made me feel happy, wrapped up and safe.

But as of recently, I think I’ve changed my mind.  I’ve been thinking about it the past few years, and I have just now officially decided that Spring is my favorite season of the year.

Why did I make this decision?  There are a multitude of reasons, some too personal to disclose, but some just lame enough to share :)   And those, my friend, are what you’re going to get.

Spring brings one very uplifting emotion to mind:  hope.  I know it’s sounds extraordinarily cheesy, played out AND cliche, but that’s just what it is.  In the Spring time there is so much hope.  Hope for better weather, hope for melting snow, hope for vacation, hope for school to finish, hope for weddings [:)], hope for fun and excitement, hope for beauty, hope for flowers, hope for green grass, sunshine, lollipops, rainbows and everything that’s wonderful!

It’s amazing how many different acts there are in Spring, waiting to be hoped for throughout winter.  There’s the initial melting of the snow, on that one off-winter day when it’s strangely 45 degrees.  Then there’s the rain that makes the earthy soggy, muddy, moist, and outwardly disgusting.  But it only sets the stage for the next act, which is just gorgeous.  The dead leaves on the ground give themselves back to the Earth to remake more beauty.  The trees start to turn green, and blossoms appear.  The colors just seem to sneak up on you.   Slowly the sunshine over powers the clouds, and winter rolls back from whence it came.

I just can’t help but to think about these two couplets (heard in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) when I make my way through a new Spring day.

In springtime, the only pretty ring time
Birds sing, hey ding
A-ding, A-ding
Sweet lovers love the spring!

Here’s hoping for happiness and harmony :)
