It all started with a horse– Sandy.

What felt like almost everyday, ammi and I would go to Meijer when I was a little kid.  And whenever she would pay for groceries, she would quickly plop me down on the pony, drop in a penny, and let me have a “wild ride”.  Despite the fact that this pony only went back forth at a rate of 1/2 a mile per hour, I thought it was unbelievably fun.

I’ve been going to the same Meijer since then, which was 1989.  I know every aisle and every product, and I even know some of the employees (by face and name, but not personally).  I can zip through the longest grocery list in less than 20 minutes because I know this store like the back of my hand.

It’s not that I blindly love all Meijer stores;  I only love mine–nestled on the corner of 8 mile and Haggerty.  I’ve been to others in the area, and I feel like I’m in the twilight zone because I’m totally thrown off by the layout of the aisles.  I am strictly a Northville Meijer girl.  And now I will be leaving my precious Meijer and going to the land of Jewel Osco, Dominick’s and Aldi.

I’m sad to say goodbye to my Meijer.  We’ve been through a lot– from endless party supplies to school supplies, grocery lists to late night munchies with cousins, I’ve spent a lot of hours within those walls.

Northville Meijer … I heart you :)
