Try Plato's Closet... maybe...

The mall is definitely the wrong place to go if you're looking for modest and affordable.

I agree with everyone's comments here..modesty in this country aint easy! I think you should give tailored tops from overseas another chance...the first couple times you go to them, they will invariably mess it up (because as one darzi told me in India, "I don't know how to make sleeves that long anymore"), but I promise you it will be worth it in the end. Just buy your cloth here from Joann Fabrics or Devon and send it overseas with a shirt to model off of (expect that roughly 25% of your cloth will not come back..tis a fact of life)

If you have trouble with getting the right inseam, New York & Company makes dress pants with specific inseams. Plus, they go on sale every month or two...seriously, every month or two...I'm talking below $9.99 deals here :) And because it's geared towards working women, the cuts aren't quite so..how shall I put it...chichore? lol

As for skirts, Bridgeview is your best option. And also try to stock up in the early spring, it's when they're clearing out all their winter cardigans!

See Ayesha, Chicago isn't a terrible town..you just hafta know where to look :)

I admit, modest clothes are not so easy to find, but while it's still winter, you should keep checking out mall stores. F21 isn't bad, Anthropologie is great (pricey but good quality), and H&M has nice, loose-fitting pants. I'm not big on skirts but I'd assume Carson's or Macy's should have an okay selection. I've seen a lot of non-slitted skirts on Devon, but I would assume they'd be ankle length on you. Or, you can ask someone to bring stuff back for you on a trip to the motherland...it's risky, but often worth it.

In the end, if you find something to your liking that's modest, just buy it. Money comes and goes, but you can't always put a price on your comfort. :)

Thanks for the tips Mehreen, but unfortunately store bought long skirts just aren't long enough for me... I'm 5'6". A standard "long" skirt comes up above my ankles.

And Allu Pea, I feel like I live in shirt dresses :) I'll be sure to check out the wide leg pants from F21.

Thanks for the help!
